What to Buy at the Sales – Jeans

This is an item about which I always say: if you find a model that fits you perfectly, flatters your figure and you love, buy in bulk, two or three more pairs, you will not regret it. Especially if they are a classic cut such as boot-cut, your investment in several copies of the same thing will last for a few seasons. What to go for right now? Almost everything, as there are so many fashionable styles out there it has never been so easy to find the perfect fit.

  • Boyfriend jeans: these are the relaxed type, wide and worn-looking. They will be big next spring and summer, especially teamed up with skimpy tops and colourful sandals. Find the best ones in Topshop and H&M.;
  • Skinny jeans: the easiest to find and very easy to wear with Ugg boots, ankle boots, black, brown..the bulkier the better as it will bring the attention to your feet whilst making your legs look thinner. Trust me on this one. They are everywhere, H&M;, Zara, Bershka, Diesel…go figure.
  • Wide-legged: My all-time favourites. This season has brought the high-waisted type, but there are lower cut versions at Levi’s, Topshop, etc.

FOR THE GUYS: Trust Jack and Jones for the latest cuts, very relaxed fabrics, worn attitude. For richer colour, deep dark, picture-perfect jeans go to GAP. And if you fancy wearing skinny, but are unsure, head to Diesel, where they have a couple of fitted examples that will define your legs without strangling them. For an even tighter look, Levi’s is the place to go.

Overall, sales is a time to focus on jeans that suit you, so forget fast trends that don’t convince you 100% and if you can, invest in quality. Happy shopping!!

What to Buy at the Sales – Animal Print

The sales are, luckily, close. In London many stores have started their offering discounts, New York has been doing it for weeks, Barcelona is considering it…soon it will be “ready, steady, go!” time and where to start? Remember, the key is to buy stuff you are truly going to wear and if the style can be worn throughout spring your buy is more clever.

Well, if there is one thing I am truly tempted to go for, that is animal print…all fake of course, but all truly fashionable and ever so chic. Animal print coats have been a winter statement, and the print is to last at least until summer 09. Where to spot the best examples?

  • Zara: Go there for the sexiest stylettos around, peep-toe and with an extremely thin heel, they are to die for.
  • Dolce and Gabbana: ok, they may not be rushing to give us sales, but their 09 Cruise collection (pictured above) is an example of what you should be aiming for if you want to “go animal”.

Zara Goes Organic

I went to Zara last week to buy some of their Zara Basic tops. Temperatures are drastically dropping and I need layers! I was happily surprised to discover an organic range of tops, long-sleeved and three-quarter sleeves, and in a fresh range of colours: deep purple, light grey, chocolate brown, black, and even mustard yellow.These pure and simple free-of-pesticides, soft cotton tops are ideal to keep you warm this winter below shirts, t-shirts and are great looking, so wearing them on their own is also an option. Zara is offering:

  • quality soft cotton: lovely to wear, soft and light
  • budget friendly: I bough mine in Belgium for only 9’90 EUR each
  • enviromentally friendly: using no damaging pesticides it promotes a more natural way of producing cotton.

The first two images of Madonna’s collaboration with Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton have just been released. The concept behind the campaign is Jacob’s “vision of the quintessential Parisienne”. Accesories include the epic Louis Vuitton handbags, ethnic bracelets and very short skirts, and Madonna looks…completely and utterly stunning.
