Some Things Should Never Go Out of Fashion

I just cannot help it. There are some treasures in my closet, and my biggest fear is not that they won’t fit me anymore, or that somebody would steal them. What terrifies me the most is the thought of not being able to wear them because they would be too passé, or way too irrelevant to even be found in shops (yes one can always hit vintage stores, but we may not have the time to hunt-hunt-hunt).

  1. Leopard print – I am so in love with it, in bright colours, in the classic shades, as my beloved coat, as the amazing Louboutins. It will phase out and I just know I will no longer be Kate Moss, but a cheap copy of those rich older ladies with pearls.
  2. Low-rise jeans – The most flattering, as no horrid muffin appears, and the most comfortable.
  3. Wide-legged jeans – Yes, I love my jeans, and a bit of flair goes a long way elongating and balancing our figure. They also look fantastic with all of my summer wedges. Skinny jeans may work for Kate and Agyness but they hardly do me, a real girl, any favours.
  4. Hot pink – I just love anything in that flattering shade (except for maybe leggings or a lycra jumpsuit) and I have a scarf by cmarchuska that I adore, a cardigan (pictured above, yes it’s also leopard print), and I will have that handbag… some day.

These are just a few of mine, what are your eternal classics?

It Is So Very Cold Outside

Let us not fool you. Do not allow for glamorous magazine spreads, colourful covers or other media to tell you the opposite. It is still winter, and it is still freezing. While it may have stopped snowing in centre Europe, the temperatures are rarely anything but extremely cold. So while some are already pumping our inboxes with celebrities strolling around LA with the latest trend in sandals, daring bikini wear in Maldives, etc, we are happy to find some grounded sources of inspiration.

Pictured above Keira Knightley in what can only be described as the most stylish cozy coat ever, by Burberry.

It is only January and the pages of every single lifestyle magazine are full of the upcoming Spring/Summer collections which seem so far away. I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I am still thinking big scarfs, gloves, rain-proof boots, and I am now day dreaming about the above mentioned coat. At €2500 it truly belongs to the oniric realm.

Tips to survive winter’s last months:

    • Bring some colour by wearing a fuchsia scarf with your black coat. Sarah Jessica Parker has been doing so lately and we will be absolutely copying that look.
    • Wear your sunglasses as soon as the sun is out. They not only provide with early protection towards the summer rays, but also help you hold onto a holiday feeling, common of the warmer months.
    • Accessorise brightly. A bold handbag, some colourful leather gloves, anything that can remind you of spring will help you smile more and make the weeks go faster. If everything you are wearing is black and/or grey, accessorising was never easier.

Mango Goes All Girlie with Scarlett

Gosh, days fly by when you’re in hospital! Sorry for the absence, but Fashion Limbo went to the doctor, was medicated and given horrid hospital food (seriously, Jamie Oliver must do something about this!)

We mark our return to better health with a small preview of Mango‘s 2010 Spring Summer collection, featuring none other than their girl, Scarlett Johansson. Thankfully they forgot about the horrid platinum wig used in the former campaign, and have favoured a softer and romantic look. Spring will be very girlie with pastel palettes and soft shades of pink, beige, etc. Now we just need the weather to improve.

    Dolce & Gabbana Loves Madonna

Dolce & Gabbana‘s 2010 Spring/Summer campaign will feature Madonna in some different poses to the ones we are used to. The pictures that have been trickling all over the Internet show the usually sexy Madonna in an Italian wife role, eating spaghetti, washing dishes, etc.

What do you think? do yo like it? does it inspire you? completely uninterested?

It’s funny that fashion these days, whether a magazine cover or a advertising photo shoot, has a celebrity as main protagonist. Long gone are the days when a anonymous model would be the star of such campaigns. If you do find a model nowadays, it’s one whose name is widely known and/or has a powerful boyfriend/husband such as a footballer, or a Hollywood actor. In other words, a model no more and a full-time celebrity.

    Hairstyles for the Uncomplicated Bridesmaid

A great friend of mine is getting married in April, and I couldn’t have been more excited when she asked me to be one of her bridesmaids. The only thing I realise now, is that this is no simple matter!

There are hundreds of things to do, from organising a decent “hen do”, to assisting the bride and groom in any organisational matters, etc. Additionally, one must be styled as a bridesmaid, and there is the dress, the subsequent alterations to it, the shoe hunt, accessories, jewelry, make up and hair. So much to do!

For my friend’s wedding, we, the two bridesmaids, are quite bohemian, so we are aiming for something stunningly stylish but easy to wear and create. Fashion Limbo has a couple of ideas.

We found the two below in our favourite Spanish blog, Trendencias. Both looks are laid-back and uncomplicated. Easy to achieve by lifting the hair up in a small bun, these looks are soft and never tight, allowing front strands of hair to fall softly. Add a flower to one side, low, close to the neck, and boho chic has never been sexier.

Another way to add glamour to a relaxed bun is by means of some sparkle, à la Scarlett Johansson, with a tiara.

    …And we’re back

Happy New Year everyone!! Fashion Limbo is back and we are ready to begin the year in style, trying to make the most of our resolutions.

    This 2010 I intend to…
    • Learn a new language (Dutch actually…)
    • Finish the book I’ve been writing for the past 2 years
    • Be a great bridesmaid in April
    • Fly to New York and shop ’til one drops

Too many resolutions? did I overdo it with the party bubbles? am I a tad too hopeful? Guess one could say that, but the way I see it right now, I’d rather have a well populated list of things to do:  if I cannot achieve everything, I will feel really proud of the things I did follow through.

I will keep you updated, my lovelies!!
