How to Wear – The Maxi Dress

Oh deary me, I should have written this post last night, but was so mesmerised
by the latest Kelis album that I lost all track of time. That and the snow outside made me get my priorities wrong and now I’m writing coffee in hand, hardly awake.

So this is the first of my new outfit posts. It’s very dark right now, in the old city of Brussels (Belgium), and I’m finding it increasingly hard to take pictures of myself with my wobbly camera. Last time I posted an “empty” (as in “no girl in the clothes”) outfit post you all seemed to like it, so I thought I would give it go with the latest additions to my wardrobe.

Behold…the maxi dress!! It’s been ages since I’ve been trying to bag the right one, and when last week I came across this one from New Look at just £5 (€7) it had to be mine. I’m wearing it with a Karen Millen leather jacket from last year’s winter collection.

The idea for this look was to avoid a super Goth look- I’m no Olsen twin so that was a no-no. To soften the edges I went for hints of grey and silver with the belt from Pull & Bear and boots from New Look, girlie gloves from Accessorize and a green beaded necklace from H&M;. Below a more focused look on the upper part.

And close-ups on the accessories and shoes,

Other shoes to wear can be some wedged pumps, and in this case I would go for bare legs or very light tights underneath, otherwise the footwear gets lost in the overall dark shade.

Or you can ignore everything above, grab your leopard coat (my one is from Pull & Bear, A/W 2009) and add some glamour to the winter days, and who cares about anything else!

Are you giving the maxi dress trend a go? Or is it one of those winter styles to avoid? There are a lot of strongly opposed opinions on this look, you either love it or hate it.

I need a brooch – where to look

Ok, so I may not be writing about shoes this week. Temperatures are dropping as I write. Ice is making any steps a hazard, the air is humid and cold. Hardly the time for peep-toes and pretty stilettos, right? How about extravagant wedges? As sad as it may sound, I’m wearing more reasonable boots and rain-proof footwear. Glamour is disappearing from my feet and has to be placed elsewhere…cue the time for pretty brooches.

I love brooches, but I don’t have enough of them. They add sparkle, colour and originality to the greyest of jackets, and with thick winter coats I have to at least try vamping them up. So here you have a selection of pretty things I am coveting.

The first one is my favourite and I’m such a click away from buying it… It’s from Aspire Style and as a cameo is a gorgeous, not too discreet one, which makes us love it. Price £12.95 (€15)

Now, you may want to take the sparkle and craziness all the way and go for this one, tiger-tiger grrr!, from ASOS. With no delivery fees to worry about it’s a true bargain at £7 (€8.71)

If you rather take it down a notch a bit but still add a quirky detail to your lapel, then this one from Accessorize could work, and it’s also quite affordable at £9 (€10,5). It could make a lovely stocking filler, so watch out if you know me, it could end up in your hands 🙂

And the most original one is this one in acrylic from Mockinghorse. I adore everything this guys make and I must treat myself one day… soon. These lovely lips can be yours for £10 (€11,7)
So, which one am I getting for you?

What I wore – Goldfrapp concert in Brussels

You may all be wondering how does one disappear for a week only to come up with a new logo and some changed fonts. Well, I haven’t been that still. For starters this week I had to cope with additional physiotherapy sessions for my back, the start of the Christmas shopping frenzy, a quick visit to the UK, and a lot of attitude from my miniature sausage dog – believe me, that is a challenge!

All in all, the new website has meant a lot of work to me and whilst struggling to keep on top of everything may be fun, I felt blessed with the perfect break on Tuesday night: Goldfrapp were in town and I had tickets for months – An excuse to push everything aside and enjoy some good music.

A sold out concert, the venue was Brussels’ Ancienne Belgique and we were all treated by no less than 3 costume changes by Alison Goldfrapp! How special is that?

The concert began with some recent songs, such as Rocket and I Wanna Life, but we all went wild when their first huge hit Train began playing. My beloved Ride a White Horse was featured too, and the unique gig finished with my all-time favourite Strict Machine.

And, what did I wear? understated skinny jeans from Pull and Bear and the cute Karen Millen jumper pictured below.

The best thing? taking these babies for a walk…because Alison is worth it.

Raise Your Glass to Pink – Why I love it

This is why Fashion Limbo loves P!nk, especially her new video/single Raise Your Glass.

Because bullfighting is wrong. Because there is no beauty in killing an animal for fun, and because the guy wearing the glittery suit needs to either start working as a go-go dancer or donate that girlie dress to a charity shop so it can be dismantled, it’s bits sold as Christmas tree lights.

Because being gay is the way a lot of beautiful people are born and it’s just like that. If you don’t like it, move planet because the most interesting person you will ever meet lives next door with his/her same sex partner.

Because being a freak at high school meant you were the bravest, daring to be different, the only one with seriously good taste in music, and the only one who got what geniuses like Picasso and Michelangelo were about.

Because not playing by the rules will always infuriate the most boring souls, and will get you places where nobody has ever been before.

Because having no one to go to your high school ball meant you found everyone so utterly boring you rather stick to yourself. Because dancing on your own is a lot of fun, refreshing and you can step on whoever you want.

Because amazing talented people like Pink love freaks, peace supporters, animal right activists, gays, bisexuals, artists, cleaners, nurses… and you, no matter what model you come in.
