Sushi in Belgium – The Good Way

I don’t do restaurant or food related reviews, but when I come across something this good, I have to share it. If you are currently living or staying in Brussels listen up,

this is a good food alert

Let’s start talking about me – because I love that – A couple of weeks ago it was my birthday (yay!) and to celebrate a day all about me (how fantastic is that! I hear you say) a good friend of mine offered to collect some sushi and bring it to my place. Considering I love sushi and good company, the evening was looking pretty good. The sushi joint my friend had chosen was Sushi Shop in Waterloo.

The first thing I liked was the packaging. Very neat, in a combination of chocolate brown and beige, with everything required for an evening of sushi. Included in the order were two types of soya sauce, one spicy, one sweet (truly delectable this one), individual servings of wasabi and a free portion of seaweed salad to share.

My friend ordered two bigger platters, one medium and a small one of chicken sushi, as they also cater for the non-sushi lovers. We were four and felt quite full with our order. No one went home hungry.

Our verdict? we loved it and would definitively order again. The food is super fresh and extremely tasty. The wasabi is potent and doesn’t disappoint. The pricing is also quite acceptable and they do home deliveries. In Brussels they are located in Uccle, Louise and Sablon. If you are outside the city check the Waterloo shop.
And the best thing about this sushi joint? they do not use the over-fished bluefin tuna, serving albacore instead. For me, that is a great reason to try this place.
For drinks some of us had some champagne, others Martini Fiero (guess who?) and some fine Belgian beer of course. We had great music in the background – my own playlist of course including Marina & The Diamonds, NERD, Solange, Robyn, etc –
May I add this was the second celebration of my birthday in little more than a week? how lucky can a girl be?

On Nail Polish and Antwerp

It’s been a while since my last post. I have been taking a short break from all things fashion whilst enjoying my sister’s company. Entertaining visitors always makes us get off our lazy backsides and re-discover the place we live in. Last week I fell in love with Antwerp, again. Leaving our home in Brussels, we headed to the Belgian capital of fashion and fun. This town is at its best on sunny days – plenty of lovely terraces and pretty corners from which to enjoy some good people watching… before hitting the trendy boutiques.
In terms of shopping, I really cannot indulge at the moment. Due to some life-changing decisions I find myself slightly tight of budget. I needed some new make-up and had been lusting after a certain nail shade spotted on some of my favoured celebrities: matte grey. I followed my little sister’s advice and, surprisingly enough, found that H&M; had the right varnish for me. At less than €4 not only it was economical, but quite acceptable in terms of quality, as it only chipped after 36 hours – and because I was less than careful with a dodgy zip. See the shade below. Please ignore my chubby fingers.
I also headed to one of my favourite stores in Belgium, Sacha, and came across these mock Birkenstock sandals in leopard print and I simply couldn’t resist. And you? What have you been up to?

Tips for the 2010 Girl

I have only been told some minutes ago. My first niece has arrived. This is truly one of the happiest moments ever. My new mission in life is to become the coolest aunt on Earth (if my beloved sister doesn’t beat me to the title).

I will teach her that Beyonce has not the perfect female body, nor Christina Hendricks…that she will be beautiful no matter what size, shape, length, weight she is. Because ALL women are gorgeous. We were all made from different molds and only monsters dictate looks.
That wearing high heels for prolonged hours is the stupidest thing ever. Book a taxi, my sweet dear, if shoes are higher than 6cm, and consider having a pair of flat pumps rolled up neatly in one’s clutch.

That an LBD is a must in a wardrobe, no matter the style – I will buy her first said dress.

That lusting after men like Robert Pattinson is insanely silly with the amazing unknown guys strolling the streets of London (but only when she’s way over 18, worry not mum, pictured above, and dad)
That forgetting oneself is the biggest mistake she will ever make, even if it is for a guy, her children or her career – Never forget to love yourself even if it’s just to take 10 minutes out to paint all toe nails bright pink.

That tattoos are great, but only after you really think about it for a couple of years and you’re over 18 – and rightfully informed of how painfully slow it is to remove them.

That leather leggings are better left to Rihanna to wear and that is perfectly fine. And on that note, gold hot-pants only look good on Kylie.

That Martinis and chocolate go great together, and that chocolate is a girl’s kitchen cabinet essential.

That everyone, absolutely everyone has cellulite.

That fake tan will ultimately look… well fake.

That women should always try, no matter how hard, to be kind to one another.
And finally… that being different and unique is something fantastic to aspire to.
